Times

The European Summit 2010 runs from 7 p.m Friday, 15 October to 4 p.m. Sunday, 17 October.

Venue

We’re proud to announce that the 2010 European Summit will be held in historic central Amsterdam’s De Rode Hoed (The Red Hat).

The Great Hall at De Rode Hoed is the Netherlands’ oldest and largest 17th century secret church.  It’s a space devoted today to fostering dialogue on important contemporary cultural and social issues.

The organization’s Vision is stated as:

Throughout society, we see a great many issues that deserve to be discussed, debated and addressed. De Rode Hoed helps spotlight these issues in a number of ways: through debates, lectures or symposia, as well as poetry, literary gatherings or music.

De Rode Hoed develops its programmes from a positive starting point, striving to build bridges rather than burn them.

This is why we have chosen the overarching theme of the 7 virtues: faith, hope, love, caution, righteousness, strength and moderation.

Accommodation

This year we have numerous accommodation possibilities. De Rode Hoed is located in the heart of Amsterdam, so any central location will work. Here are several nearby options:

The Heren and Maes Bed and Breakfasts are the closest B&B accommodations. They’re small and will fill up fast. Call now!

The Toren, a boutique hotel, gets great reviews and is just down the street.

The lovely Renaissance Hotel Amsterdam still has many rooms available.

The functional Ibis Hotel Amsterdam is attached to Amsterdam’s central train station, an easy 20 minute train ride from the airport and about a ten minute walk from De Rode Hoed. A double room at the Ibis is a far better deal than a single, if you’re willing to buddy up or traveling with a friend or partner.

The more adventurous among you may want to try renting a houseboat. Click here or here for more information.

We found this list of rental apartments on TripAdvisor. This is a cost-effective way to stay with a group of friends!

Getting to and from the Summit

Fly into Amsterdam’s Schipol Airport and take the train from the airport to Amsterdam Centraal. De Rode Hoed and the hotels are within 5 – 10 minutes walking of the central train station. For more information, check out the Dutch National Rail System’s Web site.

People ask how late we run on Sunday afternoon. The program ends at 4 p.m. to allow for flights out of Amsterdam Sunday evening.
